		<abstract>This paper tries an evaluation on what ways land use can interfere with physical and chemical water characteristics in the Santo Anastácio River watershed, São Paulo State, Brazil. Geographic Information System (GIS), geoprocessing, remote sensing and physical and chemical water analysis were integrated techniques used in this work. The methodological procedure was based upon digital imaging processing from a set of systems designed to acquisition, storage, manipulation, analysis and presentation of geo-referenced data in a geographic information system. This was achieved by the following steps: improved composition elaboration, color enhancement, registration, segmentation, supervised classification, elaboration of land use thematic map and quantification of the issues. Physical and chemical parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, water temperature, turbidity and total suspend solids were analyzed for the water samples. The results had shown the interference of the Santo Anastácio watershed land use on physical and chemical quality of the water. The combined use of geotechnology and water samples were fundamental in order to define the land use types and its influences throughout the Santo Anastácio watershed upon the river water quality and also in order to subsidize land use planning and sustainable management of the water resources in this watershed.</abstract>
